Danieli Group to implement burners and heat recovery systems at Makstil AD’s Skopje plant

Another significant accomplishment for Danieli Group, a world-renowned leader in industrial machinery with over 100 years of excellence in the sector. Its longstanding reputation for delivering high-quality, innovative solutions has once again been reinforced through its collaboration with Makstil AD, a well-established steel producer in North Macedonia. Makstil AD, which boasts a rich industrial heritage, has partnered with Danieli Centro Combustion to achieve goals of enhanced quality, reduced energy consumption, and lower carbon emissions. The company has chosen the Group’s technologies to upgrade the reheating furnace at its plate mill located in Skopje, North Macedonia. This upgrade involves a complete overhaul of the reheating process, utilizing the latest advancements provided by Danieli Group. Central to this project is the implementation of a state-of-the-art “Efesto” simulation tool, alongside improved furnace components, all designed to maximize efficiency and minimize environmental impact. This technology is intended to optimize the reheating process, ensuring that Makstil AD can maintain high productivity levels while significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The furnace, originally supplied by Danieli Centro Combustion and in operation since 2008, has already been delivering strong performance with an hourly output of 100 tons of custom-made plates. The new upgrades aim to take this performance to the next level, aligning with Makstil AD’s commitment to sustainable industrial practices. As the steel industry continues to evolve, partnerships like this one demonstrate the importance of adopting advanced technologies to meet the dual challenges of increasing production efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.

Danieli Group’s new systems set to upgrade Makstil AD’s reheating furnace by mid-2025

Danieli Group’s technology marks a significant step forward for Makstil AD, allowing the company to cut its natural gas consumption by up to 10% and reduce its carbon dioxide emissions. The technological advancements incorporated into this upgrade are expected to have a considerable impact on both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. At the heart of this initiative is also the installation of state-of-the-art equipment provided by Danieli Centro Combustion, with the integration of the latest proprietary MAB flameless burners and RAD radiant burners, which are designed not only to improve overall energy efficiency but also to significantly lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. In addition to these burners, the upgrade will feature a high-efficiency heat recovery system and a new, high-insulating refractory lining to minimize heat loss and improving the furnace’s thermal efficiency. The scope of the agreement between Danieli Group and Makstil AD extends beyond the mere installation of these technologies, including comprehensive support for plant startup and detailed training for personnel. This training will ensure that the team can effectively operate and maintain the new systems, thereby maximizing the technological benefits and accelerating the return on investment. The entire upgrade process for the reheating furnace is planned to be completed by mid-2025.
