Alessandro Bernini: a distinguished career in finance and energy leadership

Alessandro Bernini is an experienced manager whose career spans more than four decades, marked by key leadership roles in the finance and energy sectors. His career path reflects a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic vision and impactful contributions to some of Italy’s most significant industrial and energy transformations. From 2022 he is Chief Executive Officer of MAIRE Group.

From auditor to CFO: Alessandro Bernini’s rise in finance and industry

Alessandro Bernini started his career in 1979 in the field of auditing and accounting. Just one year later, in 1980, he joined Ernst & Young, where he steadily earned a reputation for excellence. Over the years, he has been involved in the audit of major Italian and international companies, such as Saipem and Pirelli. His experience extended beyond auditing to the technical basis of accounting standards, contributing to the development of Italian National Accounting Standards. In 1994, he was appointed partner and took over the Brescia office, continuing to manage complex forensic accounting assignments in Milan. In 1996, Alessandro Bernini took an important step in his career, joining Saipem, part of the ENI Group, as Chief Financial Officer. In 2002, his role expanded to become Corporate Secretary and Head of Corporate Governance. During his tenure, he played a key role in Saipem’s global expansion, overseeing the acquisition of Bouygues Offshore – a company listed in Paris and New York – in 2000, and Snamprogetti in 2006.

Strategic leadership in ENI and MAIRE Group: Alessandro Bernini’s managerial path

In 2008, Alessandro Bernini was appointed Chief Financial Officer of ENI, one of the world’s leading energy companies. Until the end of 2012, he managed crucial transactions, including the sale of ENI’s stake in Snam to Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, strategic acquisitions in the international oil & gas sector and the sale of ENI’s stake in the Portuguese energy company Galp. His leadership extended to board positions, serving as chairman of Eni Insurance, board member of Snam, and board member of OIL, an insurance consortium of the world’s leading oil companies. In 2013, he joined the MAIRE as Group Chief Financial Officer and then served on the boards of several subsidiaries. His strategic oversight supported the group’s growth in several industrial sectors. In May 2022, Alessandro Bernini was appointed Chief Executive Officer of MAIRE, as well as CEO of its subsidiaries Tecnimont S.p.A., KT - Kinetics Technology S.p.A., and NEXTCHEM S.p.A. MAIRE Group provides state-of-the-art energy infrastructure with minimal environmental impact, optimising energy supply and reducing operating costs throughout the supply chain. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies in gas-fired generation and renewable energy integration, the company enhances operational flexibility, providing resilient, low-emission and scalable solutions for regional and national power grids. Alessandro Bernini has been a member of the National Register of Auditors since 1995 and a Chartered Accountant since 1994. His dedication to academic excellence is evidenced by his participation as Visiting Professor in the Master in Accounting at the University of Pavia from 1998 to 2000 and again in 2008.
