Cistelaier: a milestone in space technology

Cistelaier, a company within the Finmasi Group of which Marcello Masi is President, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Italian manufacturer of printed circuit boards (PCBs) to obtain the European Space Agency (ESA) ECSS-Q-ST-70-60C qualification. This certification allows Cistelaier to supply advanced PCBs for space missions, strengthening its position in the aerospace sector and unlocking new growth opportunities within the European space economy.

With this qualification, Cistelaier is now authorized to produce sequential rigid and rigid-flex polyimide PCBs for flight applications. The journey towards ESA certification began in 2020 and aligns with the company’s broader strategy of technological development, which includes obtaining qualification for High-Density Interconnection (HDI) PCBs.

As part of the PCB Division of the Finmasi Group, Cistelaier collaborates closely with Techci in France and EPN Electroprint in Germany. Together, these companies form a European benchmark in the production of PCBs for critical industries such as aerospace, defence, and medical technology.

This first ESA qualification – says Marcello Masi, President of the Finmasi Group – should be seen as the starting point of a broader growth journey that the company has already outlined”. Demonstrating its commitment to innovation, Cistelaier has already submitted a project within ESA’s General Support Technology Programme (GSTP) to advance HDI PCB technology for space applications. This achievement not only strengthens Cistelaier’s standing in the European high-tech landscape but also highlights Italy’s industrial excellence and innovative capacity in the space sector. In an increasingly competitive global market, ESA qualification serves as a testament to Italian technological leadership.

Space is the future, but it requires strategic investments and long-term vision. As Marcello Masi emphasizes, “Cistelaier is committed to playing a leading role in this evolution by leveraging its expertise and production capabilities within the European space community”.
